Join 762 Media in this video seeing some spectacular steam action at the Puffing Billy Railway on Christmas Eve 2024, covering not one but two double headed Passenger Services with locomotive's 7A, 8A and 14A. 8A was undergoing testing after a major D examination which had it out of service since April 2024. We also take a brief look at locomotive 14A which has recently converted back to Coal Firing from Diesel, along with the visiting the Menzies Creek Steam Museum. The Puffing Billy Railway is a 2 ft 6 in (762 mm) narrow gauge heritage railway in the southern foothills of the Dandenong Ranges in Melbourne, Australia. The railway was one of the five narrow gauge lines of the Victorian Railways which opened around the beginning of the 20th century. It is close to the city of Melbourne and is one of the most popular steam heritage railways in the world, attracting tourists from Australia and overseas. The railway aims to preserve and restore the line and its operation as closely as possible to the way it was in the first three decades of its existence, but with particular emphasis on the early 1920s. The starting point of the railway is Belgrave station which houses the railway's operations and administration centre. The line runs through the beautiful Ranges on its 24km run to Gembrook railway station. Come with us as we see one of the most spectacular tours since the Covid pandemic, The Welcome Back Red Rattlers tour celebrated the return of the heritage 'Red Rattler' Tait Train in style after 18 years out of action. This exciting Electric and Steam powered journey through Melbourne's Suburbs ran to Lilydale Belgrave and Calder Park on July 3 2022. With nearly 80kms of Parrelel running in the suburbs. We covered the parrelel scenes in the inner eastern suburbs along with seeing regular service trains and a surprise at Mont Albert before the station closes for Grade seperation at Mont Albert and Surrey Hills. The trip was very well operated and organised and is a credit once again to the volunteers of Steamrail Victoria who keep these magnificent engines running on the mainline for all to enjoy. Enjoy!
